Head of Design & Compliance

As Head of Design and Compliance, Sarender is the Design Champion for HEFT, playing a major role in defining the architectural vision for strategic development and site planning.

Sarender leads the development and implementation of Trust wide technical and quality standards; ensuring standardisation and compliance with all requisite legislation and healthcare guidance. He is also the lead for Wayfinding, incorporating coordinated interior designs and environment, colour schemes and artwork; all in accordance with Equality Act and Dementia Friendliness best practice.

A professionally qualified Chartered Architect with 38 years experience working within the health sector, Sarender joined the Design Office at West Midlands Regional Health Authority in 1979 and was in charge of designing and delivering the construction of Solihull Hospital in 1994.

Paul Nicholls

Client Project Sponsor

Paul is an Associate Director of Virtus Consult and started working with the Trust at the beginning of September 2012, initially to manage the ongoing P21+ construction projects at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals.

His role as Client Project Sponsor involves the appointment and management of construction consultants for various projects, stakeholder management, governance and financial monitoring of projects through to completion.

Initially a qualified Chartered Architect with well over thirty years experience, much of which had a strong healthcare bias, prior to evolving into Project Management. NHS experience was gained with a number of Trusts in London, Manchester, Northampton, Birmingham, Glasgow and both Cardiff and Newport in Wales. Significant Procure 21 and 21+ experience was gained as Project Manager including an initial ‘Pilot Scheme’ in Manchester.
