Process Design Team - Our Services

The Process Design Team (PDT) has a proven track record of working on large strategic capital and other operational projects that have a capital investment element within them. Projects have included a new Dermatology unit; planning for an Oncology/Rheumatology unit; planning for an Ambulatory Care and Diagnostics Centre ;reconfiguring the Heartlands Hospital Emergency Department and relocating the Ambulatory Emergency Care department within the Heartlands hospital footprint as well as realigning urgent care services at Solihull hospital..

Working within the Asset Programme Management Office, the PDT consists of two senior team members who each have an extensive clinical and operational background within the Trust and have worked at a senior level in nursing and general management. The team also has a small number of project support individuals.

The team’s knowledge and experience in both how the NHS works and how to deliver successful projects and programmes allows the team to work with clinical and operational colleagues to encourage and develop new ideas ; to challenge traditional ways of thinking, to share ideas and thoughts; share lessons learnt from previous projects and in doing so drive innovation and best practice in the development of new services and care facilities.

Inherent in the process design team approach is the need to understand and empathise with the team who is needing to reconsider their service requirements, this is necessary to ensure we always work within a project framework and only consider solutions that are realistic and are in line with the overall strategic direction .

The PDT has driven ;lead and supported the development of a range of outputs necessary for a successful project to deliver a new building/environment and service re-design:

  • Overarching project vision and scope of services
  • Clinical and operational briefs for each service planned for ACAD which includes future service modelling; key operational processes; a schedule of accommodation with adjacencies
  • Development of the care model for the patient group
  • Identified and developed key benefits and efficiencies to be delivered by the project and a plan for benefit realisation
  • Draft Operational Policies developed to enable 1:200 floorplan design to be signed off.
  • Project plans with associated risk registers ;decisions and issues logs
  • Project initiation  and execution documents including Governance structures for escalation and assuranceThe team continue to develop their expertise and working within an ever changing NHS are responsive and agile to the needs of the organisation and have built up a collection of plaudits to show the value the team provides within the organisation from Directorate teams at the end of successful projects to the Director of Operations for the contribution the team makes to the delivery of care for patients.
